I classify Software Development in 3 major categories

1. Web Application - eCommerce Solution
2. Business Application - Business Process Automation
3. System & Other Utilities - Content Management Systems / Other Automation Tools ACDSee etc.

First, you have to decide in which category you want to go. The decision will base on your area of interest & the Team size.

For Web Application - eCommerce:

you can work on eSchool, there are some software in the market for your reference. I recommend eSchool because in future more investment will be done in this sector.

For Business Application - Business Process Automation:

You should develop software to support Real Estate Investment Portfolio & Construction Management. Because of easy access to real estate market every 5th person was investing in the property without realizing the decision making criteria. During the financial crisis, you will see the property melt down will effect real estate & construction business, which will result in more requirement of comprehensive Real Estate Portfolio Management System to generate accurate decision report whether to invest @ what price. Other than that, because of high fluctuation of raw material, construction companies often suffer from over budgets, which increases overheads and decreases profit. There is a great need of software in market, which can produce buying pattern for required project.

For System & Other Utilities:

There is a need in market of Mobile GPS, which is accessible from every mobile to show where are you right now and can show the shortest path to reach the destination and guide thought the way. There are many efforts done in the market in regards, but because of infrastructure uncertainty (damage roads, closed roads without information) these software failed, I must say these were premature entries. But now when the infrastructure in maturing this software may LIVE with some extra efforts and coordination of CDGK.
